In light of the huge demand for trained human resources in the economic integration process, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) identifies English and Computer literacy as the two key skills required for the students, especially those majoring in engineering and high technology. The school has set the goal of improving the quality of English and Computer skill training according to international standards.
Work towards the goal of improving the quality of the country’s manpower
The school has cooperated with IIG Vietnam to implement the project “Training foreign language skills on HUST’s digital platform” and enhance computer skills of the faculty staff and students towards international standard, starting from the academic year 2021-2022. The cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the two parties on January 18, 2022.
Within the framework of the MOU, IIG Vietnam will work closely with the school to implement the comprehensive TOEIC-oriented training roadmap step by step. IIG Vietnam will provide the school with the TOEIC Placement test to classify students right during the freshman year so that the school can adapt its training plan accordingly. On top of that, IIG VN will offer teacher training workshops, training programs using stage-of-art learning tools such as ED (English Discoveries), OLPC, etc.; and establish an exit requirement for students using the TOEIC assessment.
As for computer skill training, IIG will advise on the development of the MOS, IC3, ACPro- oriented training program and the adoption of these tests to assess students’ outcomes.
The benefits of IIG VN’s comprehensive training solution include: reducing workload for teaching staff; addressing the challenges of multi-level classes; upgrading students’ English and Computer skills aligned with international standards, providing students with a competitive advantage in the labor market.
Vice-Rector of HUST, Assoc. Nguyen Phong Dien valued the collaboration and commitment of IIG Vietnam in helping the school to overcome the challenges in training, especially in English training. He was also optimistic about the project’s success: “With a well-develop training roadmap and proven approach, IIG VN’s solution will help improve English proficiency, which is long known as a weakness of HUST students.”
In addition, by authorizing Hanoi University of Science and Technology to be one of the test-sites to administer international English and Informatics exams, including TOEIC, MOS, IC3, ACPro, Autodesk, Apple Swift, etc., IIG Vietnam want to create a favorable condition for school students to take certification exams right at their school. Moreover, becoming an international testing center will strengthen the leading position of the school.
