Expanding access to SAT, PSAT, and AP exams for Vietnamese students

SAT, PSAT, and AP Exams are globally recognized and hold significant value for students looking to study in Vietnam, the U.S., and around the world.

IIG Vietnam and College Board (USA) signed a cooperative agreement on March 14, 2023 to implement international standardized assessments including the SAT, PSAT, and AP exams in order to more widely connect students in Vietnam with university opportunities. The partnership will help Vietnamese students easily access advanced coursework, provide them with stronger opportunities to learn and develop, and ultimately contribute to the betterment of the country.

The collaboration will include regular outreach activities and information sharing, as well as the provision of educational materials to help communities better understand the importance of standardized tests, such as SAT, PSAT, and AP exams on the path to higher education.

As part of the partnership, IIG Vietnam will establish and manage SAT, PSAT, and AP test centers in Vietnam authorized by the College Board. This will enable students from public and private schools, as well as independent candidates, to take these tests. In addition to test center management, the two organizations will collaborate on organizing training sessions for AP teachers, counselors, and administrators in Vietnam to meet the educational needs of schools and provide them with access to high-quality international educational training programs. IIG Vietnam will also support the organization of AP tests for high schools interested in these exams.

As part of our partnership with IIG Vietnam, College Board plans to expand the access of SAT, PSAT and AP testing centers not only in major cities but also in other provinces across Vietnam.

“With a focus on delivering advanced educational standards and solutions to the country, IIG Vietnam aims to improve the qualifications and skills of Vietnamese human resources to meet the strict requirements of the global economy during a period of profound globalization. To achieve this mission, IIG Vietnam has entered into a partnership with the College Board in the United States. This landmark agreement represents a significant step forward in IIG Vietnam’s journey to fulfill its educational mission by providing Vietnamese students with access to world-class educational standards and facilitating their learning and personal development,” said Ms. Doan Nguyen Van Khanh, Deputy General Director, IIG Vietnam

Given the current trend in education and the ongoing globalization, it is crucial and pragmatic for Vietnamese students to have greater and more convenient access to international assessment standards. In the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement between College Board and IIG Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc praised the efforts made to facilitate Vietnamese students’ participation in international competency assessments such as the SAT, PSAT, and AP. “While participation is based on individual needs, Vietnamese students have consistently achieved impressive results that exceed expectations. Such participation in international assessments presents us with the opportunity to assess the quality of our education.” said Mr. Nguyen.

SAT, PSAT, and AP Exams are globally recognized and hold significant value for students looking to study in Vietnam, the U.S., and around the world. “We are fully committed to working in close collaboration with IIG Vietnam to implement international standardized tests, such as the SAT, PSAT, and AP Exams, in Vietnam. Our focus on improvement allows us to bring exceptional testing experience and ensure that every student can access prestigious international assessment standards. As part of our partnership with IIG Vietnam, College Board plans to expand the access of SAT, PSAT and AP testing centers not only in major cities but also in other provinces across Vietnam. We are confident that our cooperation will be successful and will significantly contribute to enhancing the quality of education in Vietnam,” said Mr. Paul Sanders, Executive Director, College Board.

The SAT is a college and university admissions test accepted at all U.S. colleges and recognized at more than 4,000 institutions worldwide, including in the U.S., Canada, Australia, UK, Korea, and Singapore, among others, opening numerous learning opportunities for each student. Moreover, several leading universities in Vietnam now use SAT scores in their admission processes, such as Vietnam National University (Hanoi), National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, and the University of Science and Technology. Millions of students around the world take the SAT each year as a step towards post-secondary education.

The PSAT is a standardized exam primarily intended for 8th to 11th grade students. It is designed to serve as a preliminary test to prepare students for the SAT, as the format of questions, content, and time limits are similar to those found on the SAT. The PSAT is an essential and beneficial tool that allows students to evaluate their abilities, develop a plan to practice and improve, and set goals for achieving their desired SAT scores. With the PSAT, students can implement their own study plans to achieve success on the SAT and beyond.

AP is a widely adopted program in both U.S. and international high schools. Serving as a bridge between the high school and university environments, the AP program will allow students in Vietnam to complete university-level work while still in high school and potentially earn college credit upon completion of exams. For students who are considering studying abroad, whether in the U.S. or in more than 60 other countries, AP is recognized for admissions by universities worldwide.
