IIG Vietnam welcomed many students, graduates and parents attending the “TPO – TOEFL Practice Online, TOEFL iBT computer skills” seminar in Hanoi on 19^th July 2014. This is a specialized seminar to share necessary skills for taking the TOEFL iBT test on the computer via TPO – ETS’ official practice tool for TOEFL iBT.

TOEFL Practice Online, commonly known as TPO, was developed by ETS based on the past TOEFL tests in recent years and simulates the TOEFL iBT test with only ¼ the cost. The results from TPO reflect quite exactly the real TOEFL iBT test scores, with only 1-5 points difference. Therefore, TPO is considered the most effective practice tool for TOEFL iBT. Facilitated by Ms. Nguyen Dieu Linh, IIG Vietnam’s expert, the seminar showed the attendees the whole structure and content of a TPO test. From this, the attendees got to know the standard structure, interface and question types of the real TOEFL iBT test, and observed the way to approach each part of the TOEFL iBT test on the computer. In addition, in each part of the seminar, the facilitator demonstrated the skills to complete the TOEFL iBT test most effectively.

There were lots of interactive group and individual activities in the seminar, which created a lively, fun and comfortable atmosphere, and encouraged the attendees to participate enthusiastically. The mini quizzes in the seminar aided testing the knowledge about the test and helped the attendees to remember the information better. Furthermore, the attendees got to experience each section of the test, especially the speaking and writing sections.

TPO allows the test takers to record and listen back to themselves. This could help the learners to have a practical experience and keep the stability in their voice, intonation and pronunciation. During the attendees’ participation in each speaking and writing question of TPO, the facilitator gave many recommendations for the TOEFL iBT preparation process, so that the future test takers could achieve better scores. Many attendees came to the same conclusion after the seminar, which is practicing with TPO would help them a lot in self-learning and create good habits before taking the TOEFL iBT test.
