On 20^th October 2011, in the business trip in Vietnam, Mr. Alex Yu – Director of South East Asia – Educational Testing Service (ETS) worked with leaders of departments of Education and Training, Tien Giang and An Giang provinces. Mr. Doan Hong Nam – President of IIG Vietnam – the country representative of ETS also attended the meeting.

In Tien Giang province, Dr. Tran Thanh Duc – Director of Department of Education and Training hosted the meeting. Having plan to apply TOEIC benchmark in its local high schools, Mr. Duc released that almost all universities and colleges nationwide have been applying TOEIC benchmark for placement test and graduation requirement for students,  therefore, that high school students can earn TOEIC certificates will be one important advantage for them when entering tertiary education, savimg training costs for the society.

Mr. Alex Yu highly appreciated the pioneer of Tien Giang in applying TOEIC benchmark in its local high schools and shared that at present, many countries in the world have been successfully implementing TOEIC in high schools. Mr. Alex also mentioned about successfully cases through experiences and lessons from applying TOEIC benchmark in high schools in numerous countries throughout the world that he believed would help facilitating implementation TOEIC in Tien Giang’s high schools. IIG Vietnam, on behalf of ETS in Vietnam will provide Tien Giang with the best support for successfully implementing this project.

In the meeting with An Giang’s departments of Education and Training, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Director and the Department’s officials hosted the meeting. Within the framework of “ Foreign language teaching & learning in education system 2008 -2020 period” project, on behalf of An Giang’s departments of Education and Training, Mr. Binh expressed his determination to apply international standards for teachers and students assessment. On schedule, An Giang will use TOEFL ITP for teachers assessment and plan to use TOEIC and TOEIC Bridge for high school students assessment especially with gifted ones.
