About CGFNS - ISPN Program

Strengthening nursing education and practice in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

This program strengthens nursing education and practice by making an exam available to first-level, general nurses that measures their nursing knowledge against established international standards. The CGFNS-ISPN program consists of two components:

1. A verification of first-level, general nurse status and
2. An examination to assess nursing knowledge
      Program Description
Nurses residing in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia who wish to participate in the CGFNS-ISPN program must have graduated from a government-approved nursing school and must have their status as a first-level, general nurse verified.
Nurses who meet this requirement will take a two-part, paper-and-pencil examination that tests nursing knowledge and understanding using objective, multiple-choice questions designed by nursing testing experts.
This test is called the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® and has been administered worldwide since 1977 to nurses who wish to practice in the United States and educated outside the United States. It satisfies the examination component of both the CGFNS Certification Program and the VisaScreen®: Visa Credentials Assessment program.
In addition, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® has proven to be the best predictor of success or failure on the U.S. Nurse Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN®).
The CGFNS Qualifying Exam® is divided into two parts: Nursing Part 1 includes 150 questions and takes 2 hours and 30 minutes and Nursing Part 2 includes 121 questions and takes 2 hours.
The four major areas of nursing -- adult health nursing, nursing of children, psychiatric/mental health nursing and maternal/infant nursing -- form the exam's foundation. The concepts tested include:
★ Safe, effective care focusing on the management of a client's care so that the client is free from harm, from iatrogenic illness and/or from injury during care.
★ Health promotion and maintenance focusing on the client's need for continued growth and development throughout their life span and prevention and early treatment of disease.
★ Nursing care related to the client's need for psychosocial integrity including assessment of the client's mental health and sources of emotional support, the client's adjustment to a physical or emotional impairment, and the client's need for increased or decreased sensory stimulation.
★ Physiological integrity focusing on the adequate functioning of the client's bodily systems, including the respiratory, circulatory, urinary, gastrointestinal, neurological, immune, endocrine, reproductive, integumentary and musculoskeletal systems
★ Nursing process, caring, communication, documentation and teaching/learning
